Should you not wish to drive anywhere, but just enjoy and take in the stunning scenery, there are numerous walks and an abundance of wildlife which inhabit the park and surrounding area. Red squirrels, deer, badgers, foxes and birds such as ducks, gos hawks, buzzards and black grouse are all local to the area as well as many many more species.
the park is also well situated to use as a central touring base with the Scottish border towns of Jedburgh, Hawick, Galashiels, Selkirk and Kelso within 1 hours drive, with Edinburgh only 68 miles North.
Once again within 1 hours drive travelling south this time, on un-crowded roads will allow you to visit Hexham and Hadrians Wall country along with Newcastle and Gateshead Metro Centre.
